From the Athens Banner Herald Article Entitled "Teacher lets her Students be Creative with Science"
I graduated in 1999 with a degree in biology from Berry College in Rome, Georgia. As an undergraduate, I participated in research, presented at regional and national science conferences, and co-authored a research article in Ecology. I taught high school biology and physical science classes before heading to graduate school at the University of Georgia, where I earned an M.Ed. in Science Education in 2003. In 2006, I was awarded a Ph.D. in the same field. During graduate school, I was named a “UGA Amazing Student” and received the “Excellence in Graduate Teaching” Award. For the last several years I have been teaching high school Biology and Anatomy and Physiology at Athens Academy in Athens, GA. In 2010 I was named by the National Assocation of Biology Teachers as the Outstanding Biology Teacher of the Year for the State of Georgia.
Frequently I work part time at the University of Georgia, and even when I'm not on the pay roll I try to participate in research in science teaching and learning. I am passionate about teaching science effectively and empowering students to become intellectually independent.
I and my husband, Trey, and have two children and are expecting another one. I love walking in the woods, teaching, and reading---and I am passionate about making myself better. Better at everything--teaching, learning, saving money, making money, being thankful, being happy, and being inspiring for my students.
